Questions about the BMI Calculator

Divide your weight in kilograms by your height in metres, squared. A person who is 1.75 m tall and weighs 70 kg has a BMI of 22.9. The calculator does this for you in kilograms, pounds, or stone, and in centimetres, metres, inches, or feet and inches.

The World Health Organization groups adult BMI as underweight below 18.5, healthy from 18.5 to 24.9, overweight from 25 to 29.9, and obesity from 30.

No. BMI is a rough screening number. It does not account for muscle, bone, age, or where weight is carried. For advice about your health, speak to a doctor or dietitian.
